Maynooth University collaborates in new SFI programme in Foundations of Data Science

A new Government and industry supported PhD programme in Foundations of Data Science was launched by the Minister of State at the Department of Education and Skills with special responsibility for Higher Education, Mary Mitchell O Connor, T.D.

The Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science is a large-scale collaborative initiative between Maynooth University, University College Dublin, University of Limerick, and industry partners, coordinated by Skillnet Ireland and Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet.

A total of 27 PhD students will this month take their place at the new SFI €21m Centre for Research Training (CRT) in Foundations of Data Science.

Commenting on the collaboration, Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor said: “The Government is committed to developing Ireland’s data science industry as a globally recognised centre of excellence and will continue to support programmes such as this within higher education while also supporting industry needs by creating exciting new opportuniities for innovation across all sectors.”
