The fifth AfriNEAD Conference
The fifth AfriNEAD Conference was held August 7th-9th in Kumasi, Ghana at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The theme of this year’s conference was Disability and Inclusion in Africa; the role of Assistive Technology. From the Maynooth University Department of Psychology, Dr Fleur Boot (presenting) and Emma Smith, both working with Professor Mac MacLachlan, attended the three day conference. Presenters included experts in the field of disability in Africa and globally, as well as students representing the Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies, College of Health Sciences, at KNUST.

September 13-15 Prof Mac MacLachlan delivered a Keynote speech on "Global Research Needs and Infrastructures for Assistive Technology" at the 2017 Global Conference on Assistive Technology, Beijing, China. He also attended the "Belt and Road Disability Cooperation High-Level Event".

Maynooth Psychology staff play key role at Global Summit at the World Health Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland
Last month in Geneva the World Health Organisation (WHO) hosted the first GREAT (Global Research, Innovation & Education on Assistive Technology) Summit. Three staff from the Department of Psychology were among the 200 experts who attended: Professor Mac MacLachlan (Summit Co-Chair), Dr Deirdre Desmond, Senior Lecturer and Dr Fleur Boot, ASSISTID Marie Sklodowska-Curie Post-Doctoral Researcher.

MU Psychology Undergraduates Win Commendations in The Undergraduate Awards 2017
Four undergraduates of Psychology have had coursework highly commended at the 2017 Undergraduate Awards Programme. The students are; Niamh Doody, Dawn Higgins, Isabella Jardim Lalor, and Aoife Malone. The Department of Psychology warmly congratulates these students for this excellent academic achievement.
