Tuesday, September 10, 2019 - 11:00

From July 31st to august 21st MU had a group of 19 third-year students from various CS programs at our long-standing partner in China, Zhejiang University, visiting the Computer Science department. The students were here for the annual CS summer school, which was coordinated by Dr. Joe Timoney. The students took advanced classes in a number of  academic areas including software verification, music technology, computer security, virtual reality, machine learning and information retrieval. They also had instruction in using the MU recording studio. The department made a number of visits to historic locations with the students including Dublin Castle, Kilkenny Castle and the local Castletown House. Castletown House was the students' favourite location! They also went to Causey farm in Co. Meath, the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin and they did the cliff walk to the summit at Howth. Despite the rainy days near the end of the summer school programme, the group found a good afternoon's weather to play Pitch and Putt at Liffey Valley club in Leixlip. Some of these Chinese students picked up the game very quickly. Lastly, Summer School had an evening of cooking together and singing a mixture of Irish and Chinese songs. The group preported thoroughly enjoying everything they did.
