Some students who come through the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) will be invited to attend Launchpad. Launchpad is designed to support and ease the transition to third level for students who are entering to Maynooth University through the Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) and the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE).
Launchpad is a 4 day orientation programme for these incoming MAP students to get to know one another and the university before starting here at Maynooth University. Launchpad gives students a great insight into what university life will be like in Maynooth. It is an opportunity to get know some fellow first years, ask questions and hear advice from existing student leaders and to figure out how to navigate the University before starting on their new course at Maynooth.
Students who attend Launchpad report feeling better prepared for university. They have a strong connection to Maynooth University and feel comfortable finding their way around campus. They understand the way the University works and where to go for support. They build up a network of friends and learn about their course and campus life from the MAP student leaders. These student leaders are all previous Launchpad attendees and are volunteering their time to give back to MAP and to pass along the learning and fun that they got on Launchpad.
The aims of the Launchpad programme are:
- for new students to get an insight into university life
- to make new friends
- to learn academic and personal skills that will help them at Maynooth University.
Some activities that students were involved in this year included:
- Course and subject sessions
- Introduction to the University's academic support centres
- Advice on budgeting
- Mingling and Socialising Activities
- Collaborating to get answers to your questions about life at Maynooth
