The School of Law and Criminology will offer new LLM and PG Diploma programmes in International law from September 2023. These programmes will be offered in a blended learning, part-time format over two years.

The LLM and PG Diploma in International Law (Blended Learning Offering) will provide students with critical insights into the operation of international law. They will provide a critique of international law frameworks and institutions and an analysis of how the international legal order works and how it seeks to protect vulnerable groups, including minorities and refugees. Teaching will be delivered mostly asynchronously online, but will be supported by a number of live workshops and masterclasses during the semester. The blended learning format of the programmes will facilitate participation from individuals who are not based in a convenient geographic location to the university. The flexibility of the programmes, with pre-recorded lectures and activities will allow learners to study at a time which is convenient to them.

The programmes will be open to students with degrees in law and cognate areas, including international relations, social studies, sociology, politics, and other inter-disciplinary degrees. The programmes will, in particular, be of interest to those already working in the field of law, including barristers, solicitors and civil servants who want to upskill in the area of international law as well as to those with an NGO background who want to expand their knowledge of international law.

Students on the LLM programme must complete 90 credits; 60 taught credits over 2 years, plus a 30-credit dissertation on a topic of their own choice, supervised by a member of staff. Students can opt to undertake a PG Diploma, rather than an LLM programme, which consists of 60 credits of modules over 2 years.

Modules to be offered include: Public International Law; International Human Rights Law; International Criminal Law; International Law and Vulnerable Groups; International Humanitarian Law; Dissertation.
