Representing Irish Religious Histories

Special Collections Librarian Barbara McCormack has a chapter in the recently published book Representing Irish Religious Histories: Historiography, Ideology and Practice edited by Jacqueline Hill and Mary Ann Lyons. In her chapter, Barbara McCormack examines the collection of Irish-language bibles produced by the Hibernian Bible Society, founded 1806 (and now deposited in the Russell Library, Maynooth). One of the issues raised in the chapter concerns the extent to which such bibles were aimed at native Irish speakers among the Catholic population or whether they were really more designed for English speakers who wished to learn or improve their Irish. Representing Irish Religious Histories is published by Palgrave Macmillan and is part of the Histories of the Sacred and Secular, 1700-2000 series.
