Geography: Gisele Connell NUI Travelling Studentship

The department extends warm congratulations to Ms Gisele Eugenia Connell who has been awarded an NUI Travelling Doctoral Studentship to fund her Ph.D studies in the Department of Geography, Durham University.
 
Gisele will receive her award at a national awards ceremony at Kilmainham Hospital on the 14th November.  For more information on the awards see the NUI website: http://www.nui.ie/
 
Gisele graduated with a first class degree in Politics and Sociology and has recently successfully completed an M.Litt in the Department of Geography, supervised by Professor Gerry Kearns and Dr Alistair Fraser. Her doctoral research examines geopolitical and post-colonial dance geographies and its inter-relations with lived conditions of the city, and will be supervised by Professor Mike Crang and Professor Sarah Atkinson. Gisele will begin in January 2018, after spending a semester at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.
 
These awards are competed for annually by graduates of NUI constituent Universities and affiliate institutions. The award honours and supports six scholars across the sciences and humanities each year who have demonstrated distinction and research excellence at this stage of their academic career.
