The Higher Diploma in Further Education is a professional teaching qualification in further education. It provides student teachers with the theoretical knowledge and the practical and reflective skills required to confidently work in further education settings. The course includes a 100 hours teaching practice part time over 2 years. 

A primary degree (level 8) OR a level 7 degree and an appropriate additional qualification as per the Teaching Council regulations.

Modules include

Year 1: Philosophy of Adult Education, Sociology of Adult Education, Learning Methodologies, Curriculum Studies and Assessment, Psychology of Adult Development

Year 2: History and Policy in Further Education, Reflection, ethical and professional practice, Counselling in Adult Education 

Course Duration: 2 years part-time

This course has professional accreditation in Further Education & Training

Initial Teacher Education from the Teaching Council of Ireland, enabling graduates to work in adult / further education and training settings.
