Why study European Studies
As leading experts in their fields, our staff has developed this four-year inter-disciplinary programme so that students will understand the way that contemporary history (especially since 1945) has shaped European societies, and also the way international institutions, such as the European Union, operate.
On top of taking modules in European Studies, you will study one additional subject and a modern language. In second year students undertake a one-week field trip to the Leuven Institute in Brussels, which includes a visit to the European Parliament. In your third year you get the opportunity to spend the year abroad, on an Erasmus exchange year, where you will immerse yourself in the culture and language of a foreign country. This year abroad will do wonders for your understanding of that country’s culture, as well as benefiting your personal growth and enhancing your employment prospects once you graduate
