Digital Humanities

Why study Digital Humanities

Digital Humanities is a fast-growing dynamic interdisciplinary field at the cutting edge of 21st century research methods. It melds practices and traditions from the various disciplines of the humanities, computer science, information management, design, cultural and heritage studies.

Studying Digital Humanities provides the opportunity to use state-of-the-art equipment to digitize and analyse cultural heritage objects, learn how to create virtual worlds and get an expertise in graphic design for cultural heritage.

Maynooth University is home to Letters 1916, the first crowdsourcing project in Ireland. Our students learn how to encode historical sources and literature to extract valuable information, they get real-life experience by becoming an intern in a cultural heritage institution or project, learn programming languages and apply these to history, literature and archaeology.
