About

Joseba García Martín is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of the Basque Country with a grant for the improvement of doctoral research personnel from the Basque Government (2023-2026). He has a degree in Sociology (2013), a Master in "Models and Research Areas in Social Sciences" (2014) and a PhD in Sociology (2020, Cum Laude, International Thesis) from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) under the direction of Prof. Benjamín Tejerina.

He has done research stays at El Colegio de México (2019) and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2022). He has been a beneficiary of the Basque Government's Non-Doctoral Research Staff Training Program (2016-2020) and Contracted Research Staff (2021) at the Center for Studies on Collective Identity (CEIC/IKI) attached to the Department of Sociology and Social Work of the UPV/EHU. During 2022, he has been a Margarita Salas Postdoctoral Researcher in the group Research on Sociology of Religion (ISOR) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) with a contract funded by the Ministry of Universities and the European Union-Next Generation EU.

His main interests articulate concepts such as social mobilization, religion, cultural change, secularization, and are focused on research that analyzes the strategies of right-wing extremist organizations to deal with processes of cultural and political change. He is currently researching on the mobilizations of Catholic-inspired organizations against the current euthanasia law in Spain.
