Sociology Engaged Research Talks

Monday, December 11, 2017 - 10:00

↵A number of Sociology staff and students took part in the 'Engaged research' event in Maynooth library, part of the inaugural Maynooth University research week which ran from Thurs 19th of Oct to Thurs 26th of Oct and showcased research by professors, lecturers, postgraduates and undergraduates. Prof. Mary Corcoran, Head of Department was co-organiser of the event.

Engaged research has been defined as “a wide range of (interdisciplinary) rigorous research approaches and methodologies with a common interest in collaborative engagement and a shared aim to improve, understand, or investigate, an issue of public interest or concern, including societal challenges. Engaged research is advanced with community partners rather than for them.” (Campus Engage, report on Engaged Research, 2017).

Delma Byrne, Mary Corcoran, Philip Finn, Richard Healy and Aphra Kerr spoke as part of the engaged research event. They contributed short three minute talks on current research projects that highlighted the variety of research that the Department does as well as the potential impact of engaged research. Additionally Prof. Mary Corcoran was co-organiser. President Nolan officially launched the event.
