Wednesday, November 1, 2017 - 10:45

A number of staff and students took part in the inaugural Maynooth University research week which ran from Thurs 19th of Oct to Thurs 26th of Oct and showcased research by professors, lecturers, postgraduates and undergraduates. The library got a new sign to mark the university's 20th anniversary and wasn't it looking well for research week. Photo below by Aphra

On Monday the 23rd, and Tues the 24th, research from the Department was represented by a poster as part of the Maynooth University Research Display in the Iontas Foyer. Various members of staff were on hand with the poster to meet and mix with fellow staff. The poster was collated by Jane Gray and includes research projects by Rebecca King O'Riain, Brian Conway, Honor Fagan and Aphra Kerr, all of which illustrate the links between the local and the global in sociological research.

Later on Monday two of our students Aisling Kennedy (Sociology) and Michel Barrett Denonain (Politics) presented posters in the library based on their work on the Summer Spur Programme. On Tues, recent IRC GOI recipient Joshua Savage presented his PhD thesis topic as part of the Three Minute thesis competition. He subsequently came third in the competition. Aisling Kennedy also received a prize for her SPUR poster.

They contributed short three minute talks on current research projects that highlighted the variety of research that the Department does as well as the potential impact of engaged research. President Nolan officially launched the poster display and the talks will be podcast and made available later via the website.
