Thinking of doing an MA?

The Department of Sociology will take part in the Postgraduate Fair and Dr. Aphra Kerr will speak from 2.50-3.10 on Tues the 24th of April about MA options in the department. The event will take place in a Marquee outside the John Hume building.

MAs are of one year duration and include a research thesis which is submitted during the summer. Candidates take six modules and write a dissertation under the supervision of a designated supervisor. The 90 credits for the M.A. are made up of 60 credits awarded for taught modules and 30 credits for the dissertation. Some modules are compulsory. 

The Sociology Department have two taught MA progammes on offer in 2018/19. If you are interested in pursuing your interests in Sociology please contact the named contact point for more details.

Applying

Students with (or looking like they will achieve) a high second class honours degree in Sociology, or a related discipline, will be considered. 

We accept applications throughout the year but please check PAC for the final deadline.  All applications must be made through the  PAC system.

Funding

There are two main types of funding available: 

1) Sixty awards of €2,000 across all Departments to support Masters' study at Maynooth University - Closing date: 15th June 2018. The Taught Master's scholarships of €2,000 are open to all Taught Master's applicants to Maynooth University for September 2018. Offering €2,000 cash in recognition of academic excellence, a minimum requirement for a final overall undergraduate honours BA/BSc result of 2.1 or equivalent is required. EU, Non-EU, Maynooth graduates and non-Maynooth graduates are welcome to apply.

2) If you are a Maynooth graduate or will graduate from Maynooth University in 2018, you may be interested in the Taught Master's Alumni Scholarships, the online application form is the same for both Taught Master's scholarship opportunities. Closing Date: 15th of June 2018.
