A new vision and new practice for public housing: implementation and communication

Wednesday, February 27, 2019 - 10:00 to 15:00
MUSSI Seminar Room 2nd Floor Iontas Building

You are invited to attend a seminar and workshop taking place on Wednesday February 27th to discuss the theme of a new vision and practice for public housing. The workshop will explore what is meant by public housing – moving from residualised social housing to public housing available to a much broader range of incomes.  It will explore what is cost rental housing, how would it work, how does it integrate with existing social housing provision, the use of public land, the potential for affordable housing, creating sustainable communities, how can it be financed and who can and should deliver public housing. It will also explore the politics of a new public housing approach - how the wider public can be convinced that this is a good model, in particular how the model can be communicated most effectively to the wider public.

There are a number of models being implemented currently and campaigns being worked on, including proposals being put forward and this session is hoped to contribute to the development of a focused proposal/briefing document for a new vision for public housing. It also aims to contribute to the coherence and communication of these alternatives to achieve broader public and political support.
