#MURenew

From linear to circular – a TY student perspective on our transition from an economic model of “take, make, waste” to one that is restorative and regenerative by design.

Having recently passed the Circular Economy Bill 2021, the Irish Government are taking steps in transitioning from our current linear economic model of “take, make, waste” to one that is restorative and regenerative by design. The transition to a circular economic model has the capacity to profoundly change how we think about economic growth and development and our relationship with products and services.

To create a conversation around this transition, Maynooth University in association with the Business Studies Teachers’ Association of Ireland, are teaming up transition year students in selected schools from across the county in our #MURenew video competition. We hope through their creative eyes to shine a light on the circular economy and how measures designed to tackle global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, waste and pollution manifest at a global, national, local and individual (business or citizen) level. Students are asked to prepare a short video, TikTok in style, on the theme:

Don’t trash our future – the interrelationship between our environment, society and economy.

Participating schools have been asked to share these mini productions (at their discretion) on their social media platforms using #MURenew, which will provide a repository of all videos posted by the school community.
Maynooth University are delighted to be sponsoring the prize for the winning video in each school and will be featuring the winning videos on the university social media platforms via the #MURenew from 18th February 2022.
