Friday, December 2, 2016 - 12:45

Maynooth University School of Business is delighted to welcome Dr Bastian Rake.

Bastian earned his PhD from Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, Germany, which focussed on collaboration and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector. He obtained his Graduate Diploma (MSc) in Business Administration from the University of Jena, focussing on innovation, economics, accounting, and marketing. Prior to joining the School of Business, Bastian was an Assistant Professor at the University of Passau, Germany. He has experience teaching innovation and strategy and will be teaching Innovation to our final year students in Semester 2 of the current academic year.

Bastian’s research focus is broadly within the area of Technology Management and Innovation. His research explores how the characteristics of different types of collaborative partners impact upon knowledge generation and innovation processes. He uses large scale datasets, primarily in the pharmaceutical sector, to explore these themes. The nature of his datasets and the sector, means that much of his research explores the process of international collaboration and the internationalisation of science, research, and development. He has published his work in journals such as Research Policy, Industrial and Corporate Change, the Journal of Evolutionary Economics, and Industry and Innovation, amongst others. He regularly presents his work at conferences such as the Academy of Management, DRUID, and the Schumpeter Society.
