Thursday, February 27, 2020 - 18:00
Room 1.33, First Floor, Iontas Building, North Campus

Speaker:
Professor Timothy Meagher (Associate Professor of History (retired), formerly Curator of American Catholic History Collections and University Archivist, The Catholic University of America). A specialist on the history of Irish Americans, his most recent publications include ‘Mobility, money and nostalgia: the Irish in America’ in Eugenio R. Synopsis:
This will be a wide-ranging reflection on Irish America in the Irish diaspora, exploring many issues and topics: from the impact of the old Irish Catholic diaspora in Europe on early American Irish America to Irish Americans’ role in the War of Independence and the history of Irish clerics and religious women in America. Yet, it will also discuss how American and Irish archives serve the study of this Irish-Irish America diaspora relationship and how archives in both countries might think of collaborations to improve that service.
