Professor Tobias Lock presents at "EU External Relations Law after Brexit" conference

Professor Tobias Lock gave a paper on the Brexit transition period at a conference on EU External Relations Law after Brexit organised by the Jean Monnet Chair at the Faculty of Law, University of Salamanca, Spain.

In his paper, Professor Lock argued that while the transition period - due to last 21 months immediately following Brexit - would keep the UK bound by the full panoply of EU law, it is by no means a continuation of the status quo. In particular, the UK will be left without many means of participation in the EU's decision-making processes during that time.

Most problematically, UK residents will not be represented in the European Parliament, which raises questions of legality. Furthermore, many other aspects of the transition period suggest an imbalance in the UK's rights and obligations.
