Kiera Dempsey-Brench together with Professor Amanda Shantz (University of St. Gallen, Switzerland) recently published an article in Human Resource Management Review. The review shines a spotlight on volunteering and skill development and argues that one way in which human resources can make an impactful difference to corporate social responsibility activities is through skills-based volunteering. Skills-based volunteering activities enable employees to volunteer their job-related skills to support non-profit organisations, whilst providing employees with a forum to develop new skills along the way. They provide a definition of skills-based volunteering to guide future research and find that giving versus gaining skills can lead to different, counterintuitive outcomes.  Further details.
