Dr Clíodhna Murphy was invited to speak at the launch of the Ireland Modern Slavery Council on Tuesday 29 April.
The Ireland Modern Slavery Council is a cross-industry collaboration bringing together public and private sector organisations to take action in addressing modern slavery in Ireland. The Council was founded and launched by Sodexo UK and Ireland. The Council aims to raise awareness, share best practices, and support aligned efforts alongside academia, NGOs, An Garda Síochána, and the Workplace Relations Commission.
Clíodhna's presentation addressed "Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery in Ireland: From Policy to Practice." She spoke about recent developments in EU anti-trafficking law, the need to ensure just and fair working conditions for all workers, and the emerging problem of exploitative recruitment fees being charged to non-EU workers migrating to Ireland.
