The Research Impact: Creating meaning and value programme teaches the fundamentals of research impact – what it is and how it can be embedded into every step of the research journey.
 
Complete modules in your own time, each expected to take 40 minutes.
 
Modules:

  • Defining research impact: This module looks at the definition of research impact, and the breadth of possible impacts. The course also looks at creating an outline of how your research can lead to impact and identifies the importance of research impact across the funding landscape.
  • Planning your impact: This module asks users to consider the potential impact of their research and develop an understanding of the benefits of planning for impact. The course looks at types of stakeholder and how stakeholders can be engaged with, through creation of a stakeholder engagement plan.
  • Engagement and communication: This module describes ways in which engagement supports researchers to meet their goals, and identifies the challenges in stakeholder engagement. The course explores a range of engagement activities, and summarises the potential challenges of navigating engagement.
  • Evaluating and monitoring impact: This module examines the purpose of evaluation and monitoring in the context of research impact, and encourages users to develop the ability to embed appropriate evaluation approaches in the lifecycle of the research. The course explores the different strategies for impact evaluation and data analysis.
  • Evidencing Impact: This module examines why it is necessary to evidence impact and considers suitable methods for evidencing your research impact. The course differentiates between the various ways of evidencing the impact of your research, and considers reporting the findings of your evidencing impact process.
