Biography

Louise Kennefick researches in the fields of criminal law theory, criminal justice and criminology. She completed her doctoral thesis at University College Cork in 2011. She is the recipient of the SLS Research Activities Award (2018), IRC ‘New Ideas’ Award (2011/12), IRC Postgraduate Scholarship (2008-2011) for her work on the insanity and diminished responsibility defences in Ireland, in addition to funding from the European Co-operation in Science and Technology Network and the Department of Justice and Equality for her research in the area of offender supervision. Louise is a qualified solicitor with three years' experience in practice. She is particularly interested in interdisciplinary research and the reconciliation of criminal law theory with practice. She teaches modules in criminal law and sentencing and noncustodial alternatives at undergraduate level, and criminology and criminal responsibility at postgraduate level. Louise welcomes research proposals in the areas of criminal law, criminal justice, and criminology.
