Mamush Meta
Upgrading my education to higher level has been my dream for years, I consider myself lucky getting this opportunity of studying in Maynooth University as an Irish Aid Fellow through the Ireland Fellows Programme. My Name is Mamush Meta, I am from Ethiopia. I like listening to people, I have a great appreciation of nature, and I always try to see the bright side of life. I have a BA in Economics and I have been working in various development NGOs for some years. Before I joined Maynooth University, I had been working as a program manager in a local NGO in Ethiopia that works on inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.
Studying the MA in International Development has changed my perspective on a lot of issues. All the courses I have been taking have revitalised my work experiences and brought them to the next level. I can now better relate development implications of the diverse situations in my encounter, from the private sector to gender, the environment and international aid. All the courses I have taken really helped me widen my understanding of development and the global context and I can now better analyse development challenges from a wider perspective. The courses have helped me build confidence in my problem solving and critical thinking skills. For my country Ethiopia, though it has a long history and good people, the level of integration with the wider world is limited, therefore, such types of opportunities would contribute towards integrating to the outer world.
The level of commitment and readiness to help, and the flexibility from all the Department of International Development staff has been impressive. My lecturers were always helpful to students not only in academic issues but also, they were supportive in students’ life situation in general. Thank you for all of that!
