The Department of Applied Social Studies and the Maynooth University Access Programme are delighted to host an event to celebrate International Traveller and Roma Day.

Dr. Ciara Bradley, lecturer in the Department of Applied Social Studies will host the event, which will be opened by Dr. Seamus Taylor, Head of Department of Applied Social Studies.  Patrick Reilly, undergraduate student and Community Worker with Pavee Point, will discuss the importance of focusing on Traveller and Roma mental health and deliver a powerful insight into his own journey as a student. We will hear other MU Traveller and Roma student's voices about the many reasons to celebrate their culture and heritage and also the key challenges in education today for Travellers and Roma.

Dr. Rose Ryan, Director of Access will speak about the partnership between the Department of Applied Social Studies and Maynooth University Access Programme, the great work achieved to date to make Maynooth University a welcoming space for Traveller and Roma students and our exciting plans to build on that work to do more to increase the numbers of Traveller and Roma attending higher education in Ireland.

Anastasia Crickley, a well-known human rights advocate and former chairperson of the UN Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination will respond to the addresses by the speakers and comments from participants.
