Welcoming Dr Karen Lynch Shally to Maynooth University Department of Law

Friday, September 20, 2019 - 10:15

A warm welcom to Dr Karen Lynch Shally who joins Maynooth Law this week.

Karen’s research focus is law, regulation and policy in financial markets and services, with a particular emphasis on the legal, economic and policy dynamic between retail financial services and global financial markets.

She received her doctorate from the National University of Ireland, Galway in March 2017. Her doctoral research analysed the impact of the Global Financial Crisis on national frameworks of residential mortgage regulation in a comparative EU context; querying the extent to which the regulatory paradigm had changed from the pre to post crisis period, and the implications of such change for lenders and borrowers. The research was awarded dual research scholarships; an Irish Research Council (IRC) Government of Ireland Postgraduate scholarship and a Hardiman Research Scholarship from NUI Galway.

Karen holds LLB and LLM by research degrees from NUI Galway and she lectured at the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin from 2017 to 2019. She has presented her work internationally, including most recently at the Law and Society Association (LSA) Annual Conference 2019 in Washington DC.
