Thursday, February 23, 2017 - 09:00 to 10:30
Rowan House Room 2.21

On February, 23 G. Anthony Giannoumis, Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science at Oslo and Akershus University College, will give a guest lecture entitled ‘ICT Accessibility in the UN Convention on the Rights of persons with Disabilities’ within the LLM module on International and European Disability Law . The lecture will take place at 9 am in Rowan House Room 2.21.

The United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was the first UN convention to obligate States Parties to ensure access to information and communication technologies for persons with disabilities. This lecture explores why the drafters found it necessary to include such an obligation, and examines how States Parties may fulfill this obligation. The presentation concludes by posing a model for implementing the CRPD's obligations for ICT accessibility, which draws upon theories of networked multilevel governance.
