Professor Doherty spoke at a special symposium at the University of Málaga’s Department of Labour Law and Social Security (May 7-9). The symposium was organised around the four pillars of the ILO’s Decent Work Agenda, and Prof Doherty spoke on ‘Economía Colaborativa y Trabajo Decente: ¿Qué papel desempeñan los agentes sociales? // The Collaborative Economy and Decent Work: What Role for the Social Partners?’

The symposium was attended by scholars from Brasil, Portugal, Bulgaria, Poland, the UK, and Spain.

Prof Doherty previously spoke at this workshop in 2016. His article, arising from the 2016 workshop, was published, in Spanish; “Trabajo Decente y Creación de Empleo: una Visión Angloirlandesa”. The article looked at policies of employment creation in Ireland and the UK in the context of the “job creation” pillar of the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) “decent work” agenda.

The piece was published online in the journal Relaciones Laborales y Derecho del Empleo (which is an open access journal, published by ADAPT University Press in collaboration with el Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas de la UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México).

Prof Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law and lectures courses to all first year law students on Introduction to Law, as well as Employment Law to BCL/ LLB students
