On Saturday 22nd April 2017 Maynooth University Department of Computer Science will host the National Final of the International Bebras Challenge on Computational Thinking, from 11am to 2pm.
This event brings 100+ primary- and secondary-level schoolchildren from all over Ireland, at all age levels, that performed the best in the Bebras Challenge during November 2016.
The Bebras organisation (bebras.org) creates resources and hosts a very successful online competition to promote computational thinking among primary and secondary school pupils. Last year 1.6 million children (mostly from Europe) took part in the competition. It is notable for being the most gender-neutral worldwide computer science-related competition. In Ireland, the Bebras Challenge is organised by the Irish Computer Society Foundation.
While the children are taking part in the finals, a major figure from the Bebras organisation, Eljakim Schrijvers, will be there to speak with the parents, to explain what is computational thinking.
