Maynooth International Engineering College wins third prize at the 8th Fujian Provincial College Students Engineering Training Comprehensive Ability Competition

On the 29th November – 2nd December 2019, Zhang Wei of the Maynooth International Engineering College (MIEC) competed in the 8th Fujian Provincial College Students Engineering Training Comprehensive Ability Competition hosted by the Fujian Provincial Department of Education. MIEC student, Zhang Wei took part as part of a project team consisting of students from Fuzhou University School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, and Fuzhou University School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation.

The competition consists of three levels of competing: school-level competition, provincial competition and the national final. The project team competed against 28 other teams in the Fuzhou University divisional stage to claim first prize. Upon winning the Fuzhou University level competition, the project team progressed onto the provincial round of competition, where they competed against 232 participating teams from 22 universities within the Fujian province. The students were successful, taking third prize overall in the competition at the provincial level. The scale of the competition has grown since the beginning from more than 300 teachers and students in the first 58 colleges and universities to more than 50,000 teachers and students in nearly 500 universities nationwide.
 
Since its inception, the MIEC has strongly supported students to participate in the Undergraduate Research Training Program (SRTP) in Fuzhou University, and is committed to providing all-round support for students' scientific research and innovative practices, and encourages students to participate in discipline specific innovation and entrepreneurship competitions.
