How can AI work for the Circular Economy?

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation or approximation of human intelligence in machines. AI is a major scientific topic and is being used today across different industries from finance to healthcare. Within sustainability and environmental contexts Circular Economy (CE) is a major topic aiming to eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials and regenerate nature. In recent years, AI has been suggested as a potential game-changer in Circular Economy ambitions.
 
In this session provide a brief introduction to what AI and the Circular Economy actually mean. We then discuss the current ideas, solutions, and policies around how AI is being integrated into the Circular Economy ambitions of companies, governments and countries. The session closes with an open Q&A session among the three panellists.
 
The session will be suitable for attendance by those who are new to AI and/or new to Circular Economy or are interested in this exciting topic. All are welcome. No previous experience is necessary or assumed.
 
To faciliate additional networking and discussion tea/coffee will be available after the session (provided by IVI).
 
The session provides an opportunity to highlight and discuss ongoing research work into the area of AI and Circular Economy in the Department of Computer Science and the Innovation Value Institute. We encourage audience members to get involved in the discussions. There will be opportunity to ask questions and get involved in the discussions. Furthermore, opportunities for further collaborations will be encouraged.
