Green Shoots Newsletter Issue 6

Wednesday, May 31, 2023 - 09:00

Welcome to Issue 6 of Green Shoots. In this issue, you will find articles on the events and initiatives of the Maynooth Green Campus and our collaborators from the past several months. These include the MU Green Day, Royal Canal Clean Up, Taking the Pulse and other efforts to improve links with our students, staff and external communities and groups.

In this issue, we have a number of student submissions, including those from our Environmental Society outlining their support of the edible garden and attempts to address fast fashion and researchers describing important projects on SDGs in primary and secondary education and how we improve biodiversity in public open spaces. We also have articles on the emissions costs of our emails, MSU elections and upcoming events, including Maynooth Biodiversity Day.

To the students reading this issue, we wish you the best for your exams and hope you have a relaxing summer. We look forward to seeing you all back next semester, where we are already planning events and projects for you. You have asked for a better focus on sustainability and climate action, and we intend to oblige. The Green Campus is here for students as much as it is for our staff and local communities.

To our staff, we would like to say well done for making it to the end of what seemed to be a very difficult academic year. We would like to highlight the importance of looking after yourself and switching off where you can. If, like many of us, you are just as busy over the summer months, at least try to get out and explore our grounds when all the actions of our fantastic Grounds Team will be in full bloom.
