Thursday 9th January 10am to 4pm,

Phoenix Boardroom; lunch will be provided.

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR) is undoubtedly one of the most important and impactful developments in recent years to enhance the teaching, learning and assessment of language and documenting achievements. It has significantly improved comparability and transparency across languages and across national contexts. For educators at higher education level, there is a significant challenge of marrying institutional assessment procedures and rubrics with those contained within the CEFR. This workshop aims primarily to assist language practitioners and indeed anyone interested in language teaching, learning and assessment with navigating this challenging process towards a rigorous alignment of Maynooth University’s language offering with the CEFR and establish a fit-for-purpose system upon which external stakeholders (Teaching Council, employers in industry) can rely and in which they can have confidence. Once this process is complete, Maynooth University will be the first higher education institution in Ireland to have a rigorous and reliable CEFR alignment. This hands-on workshop will focus mainly on standardisation and benchmarking within CEFR alignment process.
