Dr Lynsey Black spends the summer as a Visiting Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History

During July and August, Dr Lynsey Black was a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History in Frankfurt. Lynsey gave a paper as part of the Institute’s ‘Legal Transfer in the Common Law World’ seminar series entitled The Mandatory Sentence of Death in Barbados. Lynsey conducted research on the project ‘The Mandatory Death Sentence in Ireland, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados: Colonial Legacies and Sovereign Symbols’ while at the Institute.
 
This work was undertaken as part of an ongoing British Academy project led by Dr Lizzie Seal (University of Sussex), with Dr Bharat Malkani (Cardiff University), Dr Florence Seemungal (University of the West Indies), and Dr Roger Ball (University of Sussex). The BA project is titled 'Reforming British law and policy on the global death penalty’.
