MU President Prof Philip Nolan chairs group of academics National Public Health Emergency Team Epidemiology and Modelling Advisory Group, a group of more than 50 experts from across the university and agency sector charged with modelling the virus.

COVID testing

Maynooth University is working closely with other Irish universities in practically to help with the testing of samples in a diagnostic laboratory. MU is lending its testing equipment to help speed up the delivery of results.

 
Research & Development

Maynooth University’s Dr Andrew Hogan assists trial studying COVID patients with Type II diabetes.
 
Maynooth University Joanna Mc Hugh Power, Rebecca Maguire and Sean Commins are conducting a study on loneliness and social isolation during social distancing.
 
Maynooth University and Trinity College Dublin academics Dr Philip Hyland and Dr Frédérique Vallières are collaborating on a multi-wave COVID-19 Psychological Survey on vaccine hesitancy and the mental health effects of quarantine and physical distancing measures.
 
Maynooth University National Centre for Geo-computation is an active member of the Public Health Emergency Team Modelling Advisory Group. The Centre is currently working on social distancing in public spaces, a practice much needed as regions and countries progressively come out of lockdown measures.

Maynooth University is working with Midlands Science and youth science programme broadcast via social media channels. The university is also helping coordinate a student volunteer platform through studentvolunteer.ie
