'Marriage and the Irish'

Special Collections Librarian Barbara McCormack has contributed to a newly released book 'Marriage and the Irish: a miscellany' edited by Salvador Ryan, Professor of Ecclesiastical History at St Patrick's College, Maynooth and published by Wordwell Ltd. The second volume in the series 'Birth, Marriage and Death among the Irish' explores the institution of marriage in Ireland from the seventh century to the present day. Barbara contributed two articles: 'The diplomacy of love: a trial at the Cork assizes' and ‘Happy is the corpse that the rain falls on, And far happier is the bride that the sun shines on’: marriage superstitions in Irish folklore'.
