James Joyce collection

Monday, January 18, 2016 - 16:30

The Joyce collection consists of books, offprints and related material which was acquired by the Library in 2015.  Included in the collection is a 1939 edition of Finnegans Wake, long known as “Work in Progress”. It was written in Paris over a period of seventeen years and was Joyce’s final work.  To complement Finnegans Wake the collection includes a facsimile of the ‘Buffalo Notebooks’ (the originals of which are held in the University of Buffalo) relating to Finnegans Wake.  Also the collection contains a facsimile of Finnegans Wake drafts, typescripts and proofs arranged by Danis Rose and published in 1978. In addition the collection contains a two volume copy of Ulysses published in 1933. The collection is now on the catalogue and is available to students and staff in the Special Collections & Archives Reading Room on Monday – Thursday 10.00-13.00 and Wednesday afternoons 14.00-17.00.
