Seodra Gaeilge Leabharlann Ollscoil Mhá Nuad - Treasures from the Library

A selection of printed books, archival documents and Gaelic manuscripts dating from the early 18th to the mid-20th Century is on display in the Russell Library until Wednesday 31 July 2019. This exhibition is a collaboration between Maynooth University Library and Oifig na Gaeilge.

Highlights from the exhibition include a pre-famine prayer book with hand-painted illustrations, an eighteenth century copy of Keating’s An Foras Feasa [History of Ireland] and a nineteenth century copy of An Dán Breac [The Speckled Poem]. Also on display is a handwritten draft of the play The Master by Pádraig Mac Piarais [Pádraig Pearse] which was staged at the Irish Theatre, Hardwick Street in May 1915.
 
The exhibition also includes a pre-publication typescript draft of the Irish language novel Séadna with handwritten annotations by Peadar Ó Laoghaire and a selection of papers relating to Maurice ‘Kruger’ Kavanagh, who was born in Dún Chaoin on March 28th 1894.  Notebooks and letters written by Eoghan O’Gramhnaigh [Eugene O’Growney], a leading figure in the Gaelic Revival, will also be displayed at the event.
