Thursday, August 2, 2018 - 09:30

The Law Department is pleased to welcome the latest member of staff to join in the recent expansion of the department, Dr Ollie Bartlett, who takes up a lectureship in law at the start of August. Ollie specialises in public health law and policy, and is also interested in EU law and risk regulation. Ollie’s PhD thesis explored the feasibility of creating an EU strategy on addiction, and his academic work to date (both sole and co-authored) has examined various aspects of how law can be used as a tool of non-communicable disease prevention. Ollie’s PhD was awarded by Durham University in 2016, from which Ollie also gained LLB and MJur degrees in 2011 and 2013 respectively.

Ollie joins Maynooth from the University of Liverpool, where he was a deputy director of the Law and Non-Communicable Diseases Unit, which conducts a range of work advising governmental and non-governmental bodies on legal aspects of non-communicable disease prevention policy.

Ollie will teach a new module at Maynooth - Public Health Law and Policy - as well as teaching EU law and Legal Research Methods. Outside the department, Ollie continues to serve on the Editorial Team of the European Journal of Risk Regulation (https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/european-journal-of-risk-regulation).
