Professor Doherty spoke at a special symposium at the University of Málaga’s Department of Labour Law and Social Security

 Professor Doherty spoke at a special symposium at the University of Málaga’s Department of Labour Law and Social Security on September 17, 2021. The seminar was titled: "1st International Seminar on gender and disadvantaged groups: discrimination in employment, the use of digital algorithms and artificial intelligence" (. Prof Doherty spoke on 'Conceptual clarifications on artificial intelligence, algorithms, robotics and big data: their regulation at national and international level'. The seminar was organised by Dra Lucía Aragüez Valenzuela, with the help of Miguel Ángel Gómez Salado. Both Lucía and Miguel have been visiting researchers at Maynooth University.
 
Prof Doherty previously spoke at the University of Málaga in 2016 and 2018, and an article, from the 2016 workshop, was published, in Spanish; “Trabajo Decente y Creación de Empleo: una Visión Angloirlandesa”. The article looked at policies of employment creation in Ireland and the UK in the context of the “job creation” pillar of the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) “decent work” agenda.
The piece was published online in the journal Relaciones Laborales y Derecho del Empleo (which is an open access journal, published by ADAPT University Press in collaboration with el Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas de la UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México).
 
Prof Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law and lectures courses to all first year law students on Introduction to Law, as well as Employment Law to BCL/ LLB students
