Professor Doherty has contributed to a new report for the European Parliament’s committee on Employment and Social Affairs.

A project team, led by academics from the University of Leeds and Queen’s University Belfast, investigated tensions within the EU’s legal framework between on the one hand social and labour rights and on the other internal market law (comprising economic freedoms and competition rules). Professor Doherty carried out research for the report in Ireland. Professor Doherty lectures and researches in the area of EU Labour Law and has previously published work in outlets such as the European Law Journal, The European Labour Law Journal, and Transfer: European Review of Labour and Research. He has worked on a number of projects for the European Commission as part of European-wide research networks and as co-investigator on a major, EU-funded project on public procurement.

Professor Michael Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law where he lectures in modules on Employment Law and in Work and Employment in Europe on the LLB programme.
