Friday, October 9, 2015 - 14:30

Professor Michael Doherty, Head of Maynooth University Department of Law attended the Living Wage Forum, held at Dublin Castle on 30 September 2015.

The forum, which was called by the Minister of State with Responsibility for Business and Employment, Ged Nash, was attended by representatives of employers and trade unions, as well as civil society actors and policy-makers. The Living Wage is based on the concept of providing an adequate income for employees to meet minimum acceptable standards of living. A Living Wage Technical Group was set up in March 2014 to calculate a living wage in Ireland - it recommends a rate for 2015 of €11.50 an hour.

Professor Doherty has written and commented extensively on matters relating to pay policy, including his piece on sectoral wage agreements: 'Battered and Fried? Regulation of Working Conditions and Wage-Setting after the John Grace Decision'. This article was published in the Dublin University Law Journal in 2012.

Professor Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law where he lectures in modules on Employment Law and in Work and Employment in Europe on the LLB programme.
