On the 30th December 2020, Dual PhD Candidate at the Department of Law Maria del Val Bolivar Oñoro (supervised by Prof. Delia Ferri and Prof. Guillermo Escobar Roca) won the “Ist Contest of University Articles on Law and Human Rights” (I Certamen de Artículos Universitarios sobre Abogacía y DDHH)- hosted by the “Foundation of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers” (Fundación Abogacía) for articles on “Universal Access to Health: an approach from Human Rights” (El Acceso Universal a la Salud: un enfoque desde los Derechos Humanos). Maria’s article “Brief notes on disability and access to private health insurance as a matter of fundamental rights” (Brevísimas notas sobre discapacidad y acceso a los seguros de salud privados como cuestión de derechos fundamentals) explores some of the legislative barriers that hinder the non-discriminatory access to healthcare in Spain.
