Former Maynooth University student Síona Cahill was featured in the Irish Times Magazine on Saturday 23, January. She first became interested in activism while she was studying law and sociology at Maynooth University. It was during this time that she regularly campaigned about sexual consent, marriage equality and mental health. She was appointed as Vice President for Welfare and Equality in the University Student Union and later in the national position of National Welfare and Equality Officer. In 2017 Síona represented 374,000 students across Ireland when she was elected president of the USI (Union of Students Ireland).
As well as working on successful campaigns centred around reproductive rights and marriage equality, she has been nominated by European Movement Ireland for a Women in in Youth Activism award.
More recently Síona has been appointed to the board of two Irish Organisations, The Irish Family Planning Association and the Dubiln Rape Crisis Centre.
