On Wednesday 5 December, the Department of Law hosted a screening of “Violent Borders”, a crowd-funded documentary relating to individual experiences of the Balkan migration route.
The director of the documentary, Michele Aiello, visited Maynooth to discuss the film. He was joined on the discussion panel after the screening by Katie Mannion (managing solicitor, Irish Refugee Council). Katie outlined how borders affect those trying to seek protection in Ireland, as well as a brief outline of the Irish ‘resettlement’ and ‘relocation’ schemes adopted in response to the so-called “refugee crisis”.
