Thursday, April 12, 2018 - 15:30

Dr Fergus Ryan and students Ms Róisín O’Donnell and Ms Ruth Corrigan of the Department of Law recently participated in the Northern/Irish Feminist Judgments Masterclass, organised by the School of Law and Government at DCU. Spearheaded by Dr Vicky Conway and Dr Tanya Ní Mhuirthile of DCU, the half-day masterclass included presentations on the art of feminist judging, discussions on feminism in legal practice, and examples of feminist judgments from the text Northern/Irish Feminist Judgments. In particular, Dr Fergus Ryan presented on the feminist judgment in McKinley v Minister for Defence (1992), and the tort of consortium addressed in that case. The Masterclass springs from the Northern/Irish Feminist Judgments project which resulted in a text, Enright, McCandless, and O’Donoghue (eds.), Northern/Irish Feminist Judgments (Bloomsbury Professional 2017) to which Maynooth Law lecturers Dr Louise Kennefick, Dr Clíodhna Murphy, and Dr Fergus Ryan contributed.
