Launch of 'Law and Gender in Modern Ireland'

Monday, September 30, 2019 - 10:15

On Friday 13th September, the Department of Law hosted a conference to mark the book launch of Law and Gender in Modern Ireland: Critique and Reform (2019, Hart Publishing). This book was edited by Dr. Lynsey Black (Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Criminology, Maynooth University) and Dr. Peter Dunne (Senior Lecturer, University of Bristol). The keynote was delivered by Professor Joanne Conaghan (University of Bristol), a world-leading expert in gender and the law, and chaired by Professor Ivana Bacik (TCD). Four contributors to the volume participated in a panel discussion: Dr. Fergus Ryan of Maynooth Department of Law, Dr. Susan Leahy of the University of Limerick, Dr. Lucy-Ann Buckley of NUI Galway, and Professor Mary Donnelly of UCC. The event drew together academics, practitioners and representatives from key civil society organisations and offered a space for dialogue on present gains and future reforms. The conference was funded by an award from the Conferences and Workshops Fund of Maynooth University.
