Inaugural ELSA Maynooth International Negotiation Competition a Resounding Success

Tuesday, March 3, 2015 - 00:00

At Maynooth University Department of Law, we are focused on innovation and internationalisation. That is one of the reasons we were delighted to sponsor the inaugural ELSA Maynooth INC, which took place at Maynooth University across the weekend of 27 February – 1 March 2015.

In total, 44 students from across Europe and further afield competed against each other in an intense, two-day negotiation competition for the prize of €500. The Grand Final saw two teams from the National Law School of India University competing head-to-head against each other. Ultimately, Nimoy Kehr and Sharwari Pandit successfully negotiated on their clients' behalf to claim victory over  Anusri Kumar and Sonia Shad.

One of the Semi-Finalists, Annie Nevala, who is currently completing the Bachelor of Laws (International) programme at UCC, had this to say about the competition:

"The ELSA Maynooth International Negotiation Competition 2015 went above and beyond all of our expectations. Not only were all the rounds interesting and thought through, but the organising committee also made sure that all participants were looked after and taken care of in between rounds. As first-time participants, myself and my partner were blown away by the high standards and if we had the chance, we would definitely come back and compete next year."

The competition came to an official close with a Gala Ball, held at the Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth.

The competition was officially launched on Friday, 27 February by Vice President for Innovation at Maynooth University, Ray O'Neill (pictured below).
