Guest lecture by Michael Farrell on ‘Using the law for social change’ in Maynooth University

On 5 March 2019, the Law Department was honoured to have Michael Farrell give a guest lecture on ‘Using the law for social change’. As part of the talk, Michael Farrell spoke about human rights litigation he worked on in his role as Senior Solicitor in the Free Legal Advice Centres, in particular the Lydia Foy and the deaf juror litigation. The lecture was part of the new Fundamental Rights in Ireland module in the Maynooth University Law Department and Social Justice Week 2019. The talk was organised by Dr Amina Adanan who lectures on the new module. Biography: Michael Farrell has made a significant contribution to the advancement of fundamental rights in Ireland. He has represented applicants in complaints before the national courts, the UN Human Rights Committee and the European Court of Human Rights. Michael is the Irish member of the European Commission on Racism and Intolerance, a member of the Council of State and former FLAC Senior Solicitor
