Dr Fergus Ryan of the Department of Law has written an opinion piece for the Belfast Telegraph, published on 6 August 2016.  In the article, Fergus argues that marriage for same sex couples, far from being a radical proposition, reflects a relatively conservative approach that affirms family and commitment and copper-fastens marriage as an institution. He discusses and counters arguments based on procreative capacity and religious freedom.

The article is available online.

Dr Fergus Ryan lectures in Family Law on the Department's LLB programme and in Gender, Sexuality and the Law and Marriage and the Law on the LLM (Global Legal Studies) masters degree.
